When thinking about preparing for fostering and training we often thing about the foster carers first. There are however often other people in fostering who aren’t often initially considered. This is the birth children of the foster carers.
At Foster with us, to address this and make sure the whole family is ready for fostering, we offer a course that focusses purely on the birth children of foster carers.
Supporting stars: Birth children’s workshop
A two hour workshop hosted by Foster with us in a single day. A fun and interactive session for birth children, Supporting stars is designed specifically for aged 5 to 16 whose parents are considering becoming a fostering household.
The task of foster care impacts all members of the fostering family, including the birth children of foster carers who may face some big changes, from sharing personal space to forming strong bonds with children who may not stay permanently.
This workshop touches on a wide range of topics, including why some children might need foster homes, how birth children can express their feelings about fostering and significant benefits birth children can experience from sharing their home with others. Topics are introduced in an age-appropriate and child-friendly way, with plenty of activities, games and snacks along the way.
